Effects of Well-dying Group Art Therapy Program on Life of the Older Adults

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the Well-Dying group art therapy program on the quality of life of the elderly. The subjects of this study were 16 elderly men and women over 65 years old who were using the D elderly welfare center located in A city. The research period was from April 9th to May 14th, 2019, with a total of 10 sessions, twice a week for 60 minutes. Both the experimental group and the controlled group performed pre- and post-test before and after the experiment. The research tools were group art therapy programs and quality of life scales. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 24.0 program. analysis was done with average difference of pre- and post-test results. and also through changes of sessional terms of the program, subfactor of life quality and related lingual and behavioral changes were analyze with the observant. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, the Well-Dying group art therapy program proved to be effective in improving the quality of life of the elderly. In other words, the experimental group with the Well-Dying group art therapy program improved the overall quality of life score compared to the controlled group. Second, the positive change of the well-dying group art therapy program on the physical health domain, psychological domain, social relationship domain, and living environment domain, which are the sub-factors of quality of life, can be confirmed according to the progress of each session. This result intend to provide resources for various, systematic and psychological program development and application in order to comfortably and positively accept incoming death of elders on encountering aging era.
